Goodbye Charlotte… Say hello to Ava !!

The biggest difference about my new job with HOB Salon is the acquisition of a brand new name!! Turns out Charlotte is already taken by our lovely Colourist and so I’d been asked to create a new persona for working in the salon. How exciting!!

I created a shortlist and eventually settled upon Ava. Don’t ask me why… I just liked it 😀

So from now on I’ll be able to live a double life as Ava by day and Charlotte by night. Just make sure that if you come visit me at work you ask for Ava 🙂 x

My First Hair Model at Hob Salon – Mika’s One Length Bob

So my training has started and I’m straight into short cuts on hair models I sourced from Leeds City Centre. My first model of my first day was the lovely Mika. She was a University student from Japan who wanted a classic one length bob to match her vintage fashion style. I have attached her before and after pictures… Mika was very happy with the end result 😀 x

I have long hair!

After chopping my hair off when I was 15 I decided recently that I wanted to return to long locks… and this was honestly more exciting for me than you’ll believe! Not content to wait and grow it out (which will take years) I looked into hair extensions and opted for Remi Goddess (100% Remi Human Hair)

I was recommended a good hairdresser who specialises in extensions and I’m over the moon with the end result 😀

Inspired cuts from MyHairDressers.com

Yesterday I subscribed to MyHairDressers.com. It’s an excellent resource for hairdressers and if you have an interest in hairdressing, industry leading stylists, etc then I strongly recommend that you subscribe too! You can visit their website here: http://myhairdressers.com/

After watching a few of the videos online I decided to to attack the dolls head and post the results of my handy work online!

Here you can see the state of “my client’s” hair before the cutting begins and below are examples of the two cuts I performed. I’ll try my best to talk you through each one.

CUT 1: The Mild Shape

I started off by cutting my base line, and then sectioned the centre of the forehead to the nape of the neck. I proceeded to work on one section by beginning at the front of the head, taking a small centimeter section from the middle of the head out laterally, over directing and elevating the hair to give the shape. I then took another centimeter pulling to the same point (at an acute angle), repeating consecutive sections of hair each time pulling forward to meet at the same point until I reached the nape of the neck. This process was repeated on the other side. To finish off I blow dried with a medium round brush and using my straightening irons.

CUT 2: One Length Bob with Bevelling Fringe

For this cut I sectioned the hair again from the forehead to the nape of the neck, and took my A-Line section. Cutting the guideline I created a sharp one length base line. I continued to take my A-Line section and used my guideline throughout to create my one length bob. As I moved on to the sides I was careful not to pull too much tension around the ear as I didn’t want the hair to bounce up and I wanted a defined base line. I created a triangle section at the top of the head and prepared to cut the fringe. I used a technique called “Bevelling“. As I took my section I thought about the length of the fringe and inverted my fingers inwards at the bridge of the nose creating an angle on the cut that allows the hair to bounce. I then blow dried with a round brush and went over with my straightening irons. Finally I checked for graduation.

I was pretty happy with the results and hope to add more shots of the cuts I get inspired by courtesy of MyHairDressers.com

Scissor Over Comb – Short Gents Cut

So this evening after a hard days work, I decided enough was enough and ordered my boyfriend into the hot seat for a long overdue trim (see before pictures!). His hair is very fine, but he has lots of it! And it’s also very frizzy, with a horrible crown, and so makes for an excellent challenge in order to transform him from beast to beauty 😀

See below for the before and after shots of his hair cut, an example of a gents standard short back and sides. CH x

My favourite quote…

Hairdressers are a wonderful breed. You work one-on-one with another human being and the object is to make them feel so much better and to look at themselves with a twinkle in their eye.
